It was a gunarm first, then with further technology was able to be updated to feature appendages as well as shift into a weapon. Upon awaking in Landel however, the gun function is no longer operational.
Personality: Extremely hot tempered. Blood boils with so much as a wrong word coming from the wrong person. Often enough, his bark is worse than his bite, however most aren't tempted to find out--his physical appearance is usually intimidating enough. However, those who get close enough to him slowly begin to learn he'd fight Heaven and Hell for those he cared for, his dedication nearly unending, his love forever.
Physical Description: Extremely tall and bulked nearly to the brim. Almond shaped dark, hard brown eyes and goatee shaping around his upper lip and square chin, he appears angry 24/7, his stare hard and often lingering. Instead of a right hand, a prosthetic, mechanical hand and partial forearm is attached, which can conveniently shift into a gun at will. A skull is tattooed upon his left shoulder, a symbol of death he hopes to bring to the Shinra Enterprise.
Background: A Resident of Corel Village where he lived with his wife, he worked in a coal mine along with his long time friend, Dyne. Shinra soon came to the village and replaced their source of energy with a Mako Reactor. Many were skeptical of the idea, including Dyne who was against the change completely, but Barret approved and assured others it would be well worth the change.
Unfortunately in a turn of events, there was a malfunction in the reactor which was hastily blamed upon the townspeople by Shinra, and the company wasted no time in leveling the town while Barret and Dyne were away. When they returned to the devestation, it was clear many were dead, including Dyne's wife as well as Barret's. They didn't have much time to grieve before Shinra Soldiers caught sight of the duo and opened fire. While trying to escape, Dyne slipped off of the edge of a cliff, but was caught by Barret. The soldiers were relentless, and shot Barret's arm off at the elbow, the same arm which kept his friend from falling to his death.
Returning to the village some time after, Barret retrieved a small girl, Dyne's daughter, and raised her as his own, while swearing vengenance upon the Corporation of Shinra for the fall of his town, and the death of those he held dear.
Upon meeting Tifa Lockheart in Sector 2 of Midgar, a friendship grew based on their similar distaste for Shin-Ra which was the reason behind their broken lives. As conditions worsened around them, Barret's resolve to make them pay grew stronger, forming a resistance against the company which included soon-to-be close friends Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie.
He hired Tifa's childhood friend, Cloud Strife, for a temporary mission of one of the Reactors destruction, which led himself, and all those close to him into a cataclysm chain of events that led to the birth of new friendships, and the loss of many lives. He soon realized the only threat to the world was not Shin-Ra, but a man named Sephiroth hellbent on destroying the Planet indefinitely. It wasn't long before he, Cloud, Tifa, and others they picked up along the way dove head first into an adventure that would change history for all time.
Since the achievement of saving the world was accomplished, Barret sent Marlene to live with his good friend and comrade Tifa to scour the world for a new energy source. Coming upon an oil field, it seemed his prayers weren't falling upon deaf ears, allowing the uncovered oil field to be the first step to a new, and hopefully healthier and more improved life for the world.
